Dear Narrow Bridge Candles Community, These past few weeks, we have borne witness to enormously inspiring acts of collective resistance as Palestinians in Gaza engage in the Great March of Return, and their allies around the world join them in solidarity. As is all too often the case, collective resistance has also meant collective grieving. Israeli forces have killed more than 45 people and injured over 6,100* unarmed protestors demanding their right to return to their homeland.

On this day commonly referred to as "Black Friday," on the heels of "Thanksgiving," when the U.S. celebrates colonial genocide, I'm thinking about the inextricable and mutually dependent systems of capitalism and colonialism.

The people of Puerto Rico, the Virgin islands, Cuba, Dominica and Barbuda have been devastated by a series of hurricanes that are in fact, acts of climate violence, storms incubated by warming oceans, the result of reckless use of fossil fuels. But we are no longer dying of hurricane. We are dying of colony. As Carmen Yulín Cruz, brave and beloved mayor of San Juan told reporters, the aftermath of this storm “amounts to genocide.” -- Aurora Levins Morales

The fires that have ravaged California this month have brought an incredible loss of human life and homes, damage to plants, animals and habitat, and serious health hazards to everyone in the region. Though very lucky to be spared from fire, my health and the production season of Narrow Bridge Candles have been impacted by threat of fire, evacuation, and dangerous air. I am taking good care and praying for the safety and healing of everyone impacted, and will be offering herbal medicine donations to folks in this area.
