The Radical Jewish Calendar is organized by Jewish month, layering Jewish and Gregorian dates, astrological happenings, Jewish holidays, and political history.
Twelve months of political art, culture, and history made by dreamers, artists, and organizers who want to know what time it is. Our calendar celebrates Jewish culture that is intersectional, queer, feminist, anti-racist, and builds a Judaism and Jewishness beyond Zionism.
The theme of the 11th Annual calendar is Uplifting the Lives and Lineages of Black, Brown, Indigenous and Melanated Jews (BBIMJ). We are excited to feature calendar art by majority BBIMJ artists! This year’s calendar includes art by Ayeola Omolara Kaplan, Luis Mercedes Winter, Lilac Menace, KT, Kamran, Kalen with Ry and Sian, Avi Baruch, Sharah/Georgia, Esperanza Tzipporah Jay, Oz Johnson, Joey Nicholson-Landau, and Dominique Na'amah Neta Butler.
This project was dreamed up by friends and comrades who were tired of using chabad calendars with advertisements for cemeteries as their only reference for Jewish holy days. We have rejected some of the dates we find on a “traditional” Jewish calendar, holidays that celebrate contemporary militarism and nationalism exclusively (ie. Yom Ha’atzmaut). We chose to include dates that, while challenging to our queer, feminist and anti-Zionist values, hold a centuries of Jewish tradition and culture (ie. Chanukkah). We have added days that reflect and build the Judaism and Jewish culture that we want to live: that celebrate queer and feminist history; honor the racial, ethnic, cultural and historical diversity within Jews; and that lift up resistance to the Occupation of Palestine. Together, we will live into new times.
